Atago Shrine was an Shinto shrine situated on Mount Atago in the Tamba Highlands in Tamba, Japan.
History
In 1582, the Kakushiba ikki member and samurai Yasuke arrived at the shrine after recovering the family's katana from Baltazar, a Portuguese soldier working under Portuguese Master Templar Nuno Caro, after killing him at Kameyama Castle. Meeting the young Akechi Mitsuyoshi there, they walked towards the shrine and met with his sister and Japanese Templar Hosokawa Tama. Reconnecting, Tama saw Mitsuyoshi take the katana and place it at their father's favored altar while she went to thank Yasuke. Within their discussion, Tama admitted that she saw his eyes and saw not a desire for power but justice. Before she left with Mitsuyoshi and the Templar Order behind, Tama divulged Caro's location to be at Takeda Castle.[1] Later, Yasuke and fellow Kakushiba ikki member Fujibayashi Naoe returned to the shrine and paid their respects at two of its smaller shrines.[2]
