Abbas Sofian
- Altaïr: "Have you nothing better to do?"
- Abbas: "I bring words from the master, he waits for you in the library. Best hurry, no doubt you're eager to put your tongue to his boot."
- Altaïr: "Another word and I'll put my blade to your throat."
- —Altaïr and Abbas meet at Masyaf[src]
Abbas Sofian[1] (Arabic: عبّاس) (died 1247) was the second Assassin that Altaïr met after the failed mission at Solomon's Temple. He was also heard as he called the Assassins back up to the fortress during the Templar attack, when Al Mualim orders the retreat. Like Malik (before his change of attitude), he does not have a high regard for Altaïr. He entered an argument with Altaïr at the fortress after he informs the assassin that Al Mualim is expecting him. [2]
After Altaïr left to assassinate Genghis Khan, Abbas took control of the Order by killing Altaïr's youngest son, Sef Ibn-La'Ahad and putting the blame upon Malik Al-Sayf, Altaïr's right-hand man. He was later confronted by Altaïr and subsequently killed by him. [1]
Youth and Assassin Training
Abbas was born into the Brotherhood. Aged only 10, he was present when his father was captured as a spy in Saladin's camp. After Umar Ibn-La'Ahad sacrificed himself to save him, Abbas had to deal with his father killing himself out of shame. However, only Altaïr, brecause he was present, and Al Mualim, knew about this. Everyone else, including the young Abbas, were told that he had left the Brotherhood and was travelling alone.
Abbas and Altaïr were then recruited and trained together, both now fatherless. The two boys formed a strong bond training under Al Mualim, until Altaïr finally told Abbas the truth one night. The next day, Abbas had changed. He refused to speak, until they got to sword training. Whereas the two young Assassins used to train with wooden swords, Abbas suggested they use proper swords. Their weapons master agreed, and Abbas fought Altaïr with proper weapons. When Abbas was striking wildly, almost cutting Altaïr, Altaïr cried out, "Calm down, Brother!" Abbas responded by screaming out "You ... are NOT my ... brother!" This attracted the attention of the other Assassins, and Altaïr had to claim he was lying to attempt to dishonour Abbas. This sparked a hatred that would remain for the rest of their lives.
