Description
Jacob and Evie were sent by George to kill the Templars Rupert Ferris and David Brewster, respectively.
Dialogue
Henry Green wrote a letter to George.
- Henry: Brother George. It is as I feared. London has fallen. Thrice I have written to you, begging your aid. Thrice you've responded - with silence. And yet I write again, so desperate my need, so few my options. I need you. London needs you. You would say it is too great of a task. Or that it is not yet time to strike. Patience, you would counsel. But whilst you wait, the Templars consolidate their power. They have chosen a Grand Master so ruthless, so thorough, one might think Reginald Birch himself had returned. His name is Crawford Starrick. And he intends to rule the world. There is no aspect of society he does not control. No industry that escapes his grim touch. By day, it is corrupt merchants and venal politicians who hold court. Come night, a vicious street gang known as the Blighters strikes terror in the hearts of all. There is no business untainted by his poison. No person unexploited - be it by duplicity or force. Our enemy has designs on the highest office of them all. And so, as you look inward - and dare I say it - afraid - Crawford Starrick's ambition is fixes on the beyond: To kingdoms and continents as yet unconquered. Though not for long. For he knows - as I have warned you - time and time again - whosoever controls London, controls the world.
George, Jacob and Evie hid behind a railway carriage near the Ferris Ironworks in Croydon.
- George: The iron ships from here. The Templar running things is Rupert Ferris, and our target one. Target two is Sir David Brewster, who's got his hands on a bauble that could ruin us in this wretched war. Think you both can handle it?
While George was looking away, Jacob and Evie had climbed atop the railway carriage.
- Jacob: What a question.
- George: Oh, right, my mistake. Ladies and gentlemen, the unstoppable Frye twins; see them nightly at Covent Garden!
As George climbed atop the carriage, another train leading to one of Ferris' ironworks and Brewster's laboratory approached.
- Evie: George, honestly, I've studied the plans of the laboratory and have every route covered.
- Jacob: And I've got all I need right here.
Jacob flicked his Hidden Blade.
- Jacob: I'll extend your regards to Ferris.
- Evie: Chat later, George, we've a train to catch.
Jacob and Evie jumped onto the approaching train.
- George: Jacob! Evie! May the Creed guide you, you vagrants!
- Evie: Poor man, more afraid than ever. The years have not been kind.
- Jacob: Evie Frye, where do you get it from?
- Evie: The same place as you, Jacob.
The train neared Ferris' ironworks.
- Jacob: Have fun.
- Evie: Don't die.
Jacob jumped onto a beam, from where he climbed through a window into the factory. There, he saw a child worker screaming in pain as he was stuck underneath a metal plate. As the other workers pulled it away, Ferris entered.
- Ferris: How long does he intend to go on like this? He's disrupting the other workers. Shut his trap and get the machine fixed! And send me some laudanum for my head.
Ferris left for his office.
- Jacob: Coming right up.
Jacob attempted to go through the door Ferris had used.
- Jacob: Locked.
- Thug 1: What do you think you're doing?
- Thug 2: Stop now! Before there's trouble!
- Worker 1: No one goes in or out... 'less there's a problem.
- Jacob: I halt the machines, that door opens and I have my route to Ferris.
Turning a valve handle, Jacob stopped the machines.
- Jacob: Always work on the fly.
- Worker 2: Ferris will have our heads!
A thug walked in through the door.
- Thug 3: What's all this? Which one of you is responsible?
- Worker 3: Wasn't us, sir! I swear it!
Jacob assassinated the thug from above.
- Thug 2: Who are you?
- Jacob: The sanitary inspector. This man is dead.
- Thug 2: You're the dead man!
- Thug 1: Run along home, boy. I'll you how to beg for mercy!
Jacob fought and killed the thugs. Leaving the first building, Jacob went outside, where he saw the rest of the industrial complex.
- Jacob: Ferris, I'm coming.
Time to head for higher ground.
Jacob made his way to the main ironworks building, where a worker spoke to Ferris at the latter's office.
- Worker 4: Mister Ferris, sir. Uh, the lad in the factory should be taken to be bandaged by the apothecary.
- Ferris: Fine. But dock his wages.
- Worker 4: Yes, sir.
- Jacob: Shall we arrive at a final price, Mister Ferris?
Jacob neared Ferris' office.
- Ferris: Take this down: "Dear Sir, I am pleased to inform you that I have managed to secure a source of iron ore that will continue to generate a steady profit for many a year to come, and provide the raw material to build several new trains." I expect a knighthood for this. No. Don't write that. "It is my hope that this good news may please you. I await further instructions. I am, etc., etc., Rupert Ferris." Send it to Mister Starrick please, Mister Stone. And how is your father these days? I hope the doctor I sent has facilitated a speedy return to good health.
- Secretary: Yes, sir. Words cannot saw how grateful we are.
- Ferris: Come, come, there's no need for thanks. You and the others in this office are dear to me. Do let me know if there is anything else I can do.
Ferris spotted Jacob.
- Ferris: What is this? Help!
Jacob assassinated Ferris.
- Jacob: It is done.
- Ferris: Oh? What did you accomplish, boy? A bolt loosened in Starrick's machine, a large bolt... but not enough!
- Jacob: Your Grand Master will fall.
- Ferris: You Assassins can circle London to your heart's content. The mechanism we have built has been going strong for a hundred years, and will run a thousand more. It is the very city itself.
- Jacob: We will take London from your hands.
- Ferris: From Croydon? You lurk in the shadows, like a coward. I doubt it.
As Ferris died, Jacob swiped a handkerchief with his blood. He then left the factory and jumped onto a train as it was leaving. As several thugs jumped onto the train as well, Jacob fought and killed them.
- Thugs: The Assassin! Kill him!
Cut off his head!
Get off our train! - Jacob: Tickets, please!
Two thugs drove past the train in a carriage.
- Jacob: Lost your bottle, boys?
One of the thugs used a club to move a lever at a railroad switch, sending the train onto the wrong track. As the driver attempted to stop the train before jumping off, Jacob noticed that the track was unfinished and led to a cliffside.
- Jacob: Oh, no...
As the train drove off the cliff, Jacob jumped from carriage to carriage. As the train stopped, he held onto a carriage hanging from the cliffside.
- Jacob: Well, we seem to have made an unscheduled stop.
As Jacob descended through the train wreck onto firm ground, one of the carriages atop the cliff fell down as well.
- Jacob: Maybe next time I'll walk.
The carriage that had fallen down dropped to the side.
Outcome
Jacob killed Rupert Ferris, weakening the Templars' hold on the London industries.

Description
While Jacob hunted down Rupert Ferris, Evie set out to eliminate the Templar scientist David Brewster.
Dialogue
Hiding in a train headed for a Templar facility, Evie inspected a map of the area.
- Evie: Yard... Guard quarters... Brewster's laboratory. This is where the Piece of Eden will be located.
Evie burned the map.
- Evie: No loose ends. Now, to decouple the locomotive and create a diversion.
Two guards entered the carriage where Evie was hiding.
- Guard 1: Well, where is it? Huh? Where's Brewster's supplies?
- Guard 2: Meater.
Evie whistled from her hiding spot behind a crate.
- Guard 1: Who's there?
As the guard approached, Evie killed him.
- Evie: Time to deploy the diversion.
Evie made her way to the locomotive.
- Evie: I'm on my way, Sir David.
She spotted a pair of guards.
- Evie: Hello, boys.
Evie found a family hiding in a carriage.
- Father: Please, miss, don't turn us in. They'll send us to the lab.
- Mother: We'll be on our way as soon as the train slows, miss.
As Evie neared the locomotive, the smoke from the chimney came into her face.
- Evie: Smells like Jacob's cooking.
On reaching the locomotive, Evie detached the rest of the train.
- Evie: That should keep you busy while I head into your lab.
As the locomotive arrived at the facility's railyard, Evie jumped off.
- Guard 3: Follow me down the tracks.
- Guard 4: You stay 'ere and keep a look out!
- Guard 5: All right, I'll shout if I get any bother.
- Evie: First, for a bird's eye view. Can't be too careful.
- Guard 6: How did it come apart?
- Guard 7: That's not your concern. Bring back the cargo.
Evie climbed a tower. From there, she saw Brewster speaking with Lucy Thorne.
- Brewster: I need two more weeks with the device.
- Thorne: Your questionable practices are beginning to draw unwanted attention. You've been given more than enough time to achieve results, Sir David.
- Brewster: I was unaware that you expected me to perform like a cocker spaniel.
- Thorne: Permit me to remind you of your obligation to the Order.
- Brewster: Miss Thorne, you ride me like a racehorse!
- Thorne: Sir David, I will return tomorrow. If you have not unlocked the device's secrets, forget your dogs and horses. I will leave you to the wolves. Good day.
Evie then saw a man confronted by two guards.
- Topping: I was merely promised a tour of the premises, m'lords.
- Guard 8: Who sent you?
- Guard 9: He's one of Green's spies.
- Brewster: Get that man to interrogation. Then I want him brought to the lab.
The man was taken away.
- Evie: What a pity, but no deviations from the mission.
- Guard 10: We don't get those supplies back from the train, Mister Starrick'll cut our wages.
- Guard 11: They'll bring 'em home. You watch.
- Guard 12: Does Sir David Brewster take in the largest haul for Starrick Industries?
- Guard 13: Not likely! Been on one of Mister Starrick's excursions?
- Guard 12: Pleasure trips?
- Guard 13: Bank robberies.
- Guard 12: Tipping the scales in his favor. I love it.
Evie entered the laboratory building, where she overheard the man being interrogated.
- Evie: Nearly there.
Where is Brewster's laboratory? All reconaissance pointed straight here. - Guard 8: Speak up!
- Guard 9: Let me beat it out of him.
- Topping: I ask you, m'lord, can't a gentl'man wander the tracks?
- Guard 8: How did you break into the laboratory? The entrance is hidden.
- Evie: A secret laboratory? Well, well. Perhaps I can aid this interrogation.
- Topping: What do you wish me to elaborate upon, m'lord? I am all ears.
- Guard 8: I will take them, too, if you do not answer me! Who sent you?
- Topping: Why, I did, m'lord. I came on my own two feet.
- Guard 9: Let me put his fingers through the mangle...
- Guard 8: Not yet. Was it Green?
- Topping: Neither Green, nor Black, nor Brown.
- Guard 8: Henry Green.
- Topping: Oh, Henry Green! Who's he?
- Guard 8: Your very soul hangs in the balance.
- Topping: That's what me mother said this very week when I went to the fights. But she always turn a blind eye when I come home with me earnings, you can bet your last shilling.
- Guard 8: Confess! Or my sharp friend here will have his way. You shall return home empty-handed.
Evie killed the two guards.
- Topping: Ah! Thank you kindly! I was in ever such a squeaky fix, when - what do you know - you rescue me.
- Evie: Where's the hidden laboratory?
- Topping: Untie me and then we can parlay, m'lady,
- Evie: I'm pressed for time. Tell me now.
- Topping: It's underground. Requires a key. One of the guards nicked mine, cheeky sod.
- Evie: Thank you.
- Topping: Uh, now untie me?
- Evie: You got yourself in. I trust you can get yourself out again.
- Topping: Not to worry, m'lady. Can still recall a couple of tricks from me carnival days.
- Evie: Charming.
Somewhere That's Green was a virtual representation of one of Jacob Frye's genetic memories, relived through the Helix Navigator.
Description
As Jacob and Evie arrived in London, they sought out the Assassin Henry Green to devise a plan to take down the Templars in the city.
Dialogue
Jacob and Evie left the Whitechapel train station.
- Jacob: I've never seen so many people all at once.
- Evie: "The churning seas of London." It's just the way Father described. Now, to find Henry Green and formulate a plan of attack against the Templars.
- Jacob: Who's Mister Green, again?
- Evie: The Assassin watching over London. Did you not listen the first three times?
- Jacob: Listen to what?
A young boy ran into Jacob.
- Jacob: Oi! Watch it!
- Boy: Beg pardon, sir!
As the boy ran away, Jacob found that he had been pickpocketed.
- Jacob: Oi! Come back here, you filthy dipper!
Jacob chased the thief and reached an alley.
- Jacob: Fine, you little mobsman!... Keep it.
Two thugs approached Jacob.
- Thug 1: Well, well. What do we have here?
- Thug 2: You're on our property.
Jacob killed the thugs.
- Jacob: Ha, ha! Excellent. What else does London have to offer?
Evie caught up with Jacob.
- Evie: Now is not the time for tourism, Jacob. Now's the time to find Henry Green. I've always been the quicker climber, haven't I?
- Jacob: Not since we were two.
- Evie: Race you to the highest vantage point.
Jacob and Evie raced to a factory rooftop.
- Evie: You're going to lose again!
- Jacob: Not on my watch!
Jacob and Evie climbed onto the rooftop.
- Evie: Where is Mister Green's shop located? It was marked on Father's map...
An Assassin climbed up behind them.
- Henry: Two Assassins. Equal in height. One female, one male. Two decades old, and those devilish smiles. You must be the Frye twins.
- Evie: And you are...?
- Henry: Henry Green, at your service. I was sorry to learn about your father's passing.
Evie looked at Henry with enchantment.
- Evie: Thank you...
- Jacob: What can you tell us about Crawford Starrick?
- Henry: I suppose the Council desires news?
- Evie: London must be freed. To provide a better future for all of its citizens.
- Henry: Well thank goodness the Council saw reason and sent you to aid us.
- Jacob: Yes... thank goodness.
- Henry: Unfortunately, I am the bearer of bad news. Today, Starrick sits at the helm of the most sophisticated Templar infrastructure known in the western world. Every class, every borough, the gangs, the industries - his reach extends all across London.
- Jacob: I've always thought of myself as a gang leader. Firm, but fair. We'll have uniforms. And I'll unite a mix of disenfranchised outsiders under one name. That's it, Evie! We can really them to our side.
- Evie: Oh, like the way that you rallied those card players at the Oakbrook Tavern into the river?
- Jacob: That was different, they beat me at whist. I can see it now! We'll call ourselves the Rooks.
- Evie: You were never good at chess, either.
- Jacob: Have you got a better plan?
- Evie: Find the Piece of Eden.
- Jacob: Ah...
- Henry: Well. Let me show you the lay of the land. Shall we? This is the highest point in Whitechapel.
Climbing atop an industrial chimney, the Assassins observed the Whitechapel district.
- Henry: Look at what Starrick has done to this city. Whitechapel is riddled with crime; child labor, despite regulations. A gang known as the Blighters overruns the streets; and Templars manipulating behind the scenes. As in all the other boroughs. We need to return this city to the people who built it in the first place.
- Evie: We will free London from Starrick. You have my word.
- Jacob: And my Rooks!
- Henry: Miss Frye, your passion is inspiring. Come. Let us return to my shop, and I can bring you up to date on the rest.
The Assassins leapt into a hay cart below, from where they walked down the sidewalk.
- Henry: Keep quiet, Kaylock's looking for me.
- Evie: Who's Kaylock?
- Henry: One of Starrick's gang leaders.
- Jacob: Why does he want you?
- Henry: He's after some of my more arcane research into one of the Precursor artifacts.
- Evie: ...The Piece of Eden.
- Jacob: So tell me about these "Blighters".
- Henry: In search of an army, Starrick gathered up the nastiest of the the Underworld. Some of the city's gangs tried to prevent it - and were slaughtered for their efforts. Now, only Whitechapel's Clinkers remain opposed. But they're no match for the Blighters.
- Jacob: Well, let's shine these Clinkers up then, shall we? They're just the sort we're looking for!
- Evie: You can't be serious.
- Jacob: Evie, they're ready to fight and oppose the Blighters. This is my chance to step in! Look out, London, here come the Rooks!
As they reached a corner, Jacob ran into a man in the process of reading, causing the latter to drop his writings.
- Dickens: Confound this city, no one looks where they're going!
- Jacob: Yes, I've noticed that.
As the man picked up his writings, Evie helped him.
- Dickens: Bloody Drood! I'll never finish it at this rate!
The man looked up as some of his writings were taken by the wind.
- Dickens: Only providence knows where those words are headed now. Well, I must get to work replacing them. Should you ever be in the mood for a tale or two, you can always find me where the ale is warm and tempers are hot! Ta-ta!
The man entered a tavern.
- Jacob: What an odd man.
- Henry: That, Mister Frye, was Charles Dickens. Knows everyone and everything in the city. If I were you, I would keep that connection in your back pocket.
A Blighter sent a subordinate to the gang headquarters to report Henry's presence.
- Henry: Kaylock's gang is nearby. They must not follow me back to my shop.
- Evie: We'll take care of it.
Henry gave both Jacob and Evie a revolver.
- Henry: Here. You might be able to use this.
- Jacob: Oh, God, I hope so.
- Henry: My carriage is nearby. Make use of it to throw them off my trail. I will meet you at the curio shop.
As Henry left, Jacob and Evie commandeered the carriage.
- Jacob: We need to lead them away from Green.
Jacob fired his revolver into the air, drawing the Blighters' carriages towards them.
- Jacob: Here comes trouble!
- Evie: Their carriages are easily damaged! Kaylock will rue the day...
- Blighters: That's the fella!
Get 'im!
Ramming into the carriages, Jacob and Evie eliminated the Blighters.
- Jacob: They've gone.
- Evie: Now to return to Mister Green.
- Jacob: Aye, aye, Captain!
- Evie: You're relentless!
- Jacob: That relentlessness will see me become Master when we finish this.
- Evie: George would do nothing of the sort. Whatever's left of the Creed would perish under your control.
- Jacob: Harsh words, dear sister.
- Evie: I do hope Mister Green made it back safely.
- Jacob: Don't tell me you fancy the bloke already.
- Evie: And what do you suggest if our number one source of information turns up dead?
- Jacob: Starrick can't be that hard to find. I say we turn the carriage 'round and go find him!
- Evie: This is why you aren't in charge.
They reached Henry's shop.
- Henry: Did you give them the slip?
- Jacob: We gave them more than that.
Evie noticed drawings of various individuals.
- Evie: Who are all these people?
- Henry: Over the years, I have established a number of connections across the city.
- Evie: Splendid! We'll need focused aid-
- Jacob: Focused aid? Pf. We take over Starrick's gangs, we cripple his control.
- Evie: You're not aiming high enough. Starrick has influence in every branch of society, we need to match him.
- Jacob: I see what you're saying, Evie. We need the Rooks.
- Evie: You are not starting a gang called the Rooks.
- Henry: I believe I may have an idea of my own. You will need the police to turn a blind eye to our activities. My ally in the force, Sergeant Abberline. I've heard he's a master of disguise. Next up - urchins.
- Jacob: Urchins?
- Henry: Urchins. Children make for excellent spies.
- Evie: Clara O'Dea...
- Henry: Smart as a whip, that one. Finally, you would be wise to remember that Starrick never acts alone. There are gang leaders in every borough. You'll meet them soon enough, no doubt. Rexford Kaylock, known for his ability to vanish before your very eyes.
- Jacob: Shall we make him vanish for real?
- Evie: I suppose.
Henry gave Evie a drawing of a Templar.
- Henry: Hm, a Templar target you might want to look into. Be cautious. It's rough out there.
- Jacob: Don't worry about me, Greenie. I can handle a few thugs.
Outcome
Jacob and Evie met with Henry Green. Together, they laid out a preliminary plan to weaken the Templars' grip on London.

Description
Having discovered a Templar plot to assassinate Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli, Jacob set out to discover the identity of the man behind, who was only known as "B".
Dialogue
Jacob infiltrated the Sinopean Club.
- Jacob: All right, "B", who are you and what's your game?
Jacob spied on Disraeli at the club.
- Jacob: Well, if it isn't my dear old chum, Mr. Disraeli. Now, Prime Minister, which of your friends is about to stab you in the back?
- Disraeli: The Corrupt Practices Bill is a vital step in reforming our government. If the majority party is allowed to dictate the results of contested elections, we can scarcely call ourselves free.
- Gladstone: If we yield up our rights bit by bit to the courts, we can scarcely call ourselves free, sir.
- Disraeli: This is so like you, Gladstone! You would rather throw your body upon the gears of progress than surrender one iota of power!
- Gladstone: By God, Disraeli, you are a fool! I'll not stand idly by and watch you drag Parliamentary privilege through the muck!
- Disraeli: No, certainly not! You'd rather return us to the yoke of tyranny? Perhaps while we're at it, Mister Gladstone, we could repeal Magna Carta and return the crown to the bloody Stuarts!
- Gladstone: How dare you, sir! Merely because I do not wish to see government placed in the hands of judges, you would make these slanderous accusations? I'll not stand for it!
- Disraeli: Then I shall obviate the requirement. Good evening, sir.
A spy tailed Disraeli as the latter left the club.
- Jacob: "B", I presume?
Jacob chased after the spy and tackled him.
- Jacob: Pleasure to meet you, "B".
- Herbert: "B"? My name's Herbert!
- Jacob: Then why are you following the Prime Minister?
- Herbert: It's just a job, sir. Some old bloke paid me to-
The spy was shot through the head, and Jacob saw a sniper atop a church.
- Jacob: Smug bastard.
Jacob chased after the sniper, dodging her shots along the way.
- Sniper: Yappy bastard!
Mopsy bugger!
Jacob caught up with the sniper at the edge of a rooftop.
- Sniper: Shite!
Knocking her unconscious after a fight, Jacob held the sniper over the edge of the rooftop and woke her up.
- Sniper: Bloody hell! Where'd you come from?
- Jacob: Well, I was born in Crawley, but that's by the by. Who are you working for?
- Sniper: I-I never got his name. Old chap. Big moustache. Wore some kind of uniform. Hussars, maybe.
- Jacob: What's his game?
- Sniper: Please, he'll kill me.
- Jacob: And a three-storey drop will shatter your legs and send you to the workhouse, difference is, you can run from him.
- Sniper: Tomorrow! My lads are going to attack the Prime Minister's carriage on the way to Parliament.
Jacob unhanded the sniper, who ran off.
- Jacob: Perfect.
Outcome
Jacob learned that a group of hired thugs would attack Disraeli as he prepared to leave for Parliament the following morning.

Dialogue
Atop a tower, Jacob observed Benjamin Disraeli and his wife, Mary Anne, leave their house at 10 Downing Street and enter their carriage.
- Jacob: So much for the house call. I'll have to find a way into that carriage.
Jacob snuck into the carriage.
- Benjamin: What's the meaning of this? Who the devil are you?
- Jacob: Prime Minister, I'm your new bodyguard. Jacob Frye-
- Benjamin: I wasn't informed of any new bodyguard. Who is your commanding officer?
- Mary Anne: Let the boy speak, Dizzy.
- Jacob: Madam. Apologies, but we've learned of a threat on your life, and the Met thought it best to move quickly.
- Benjamin: Threat? What sort of threat?
Gunshots were heard outside the carriage.
- Jacob: That sort. And if you'll excuse me a moment.
Jacob left the carriage and killed the Disraelis' assailants. Afterwards, the Prime Minister opened the carriage door.
- Benjamin: See here, what's all this-
Two thugs stood outside.
- Thug: Not so fast, Your Excellency.
One of the thugs took the carriage and drove away the Disraelis' while Jacob finished off the remaining assailants.
- Jacob: Oi! Get back here with that... Prime Minister!
Jacob chased after the Disraelis' carriage and hijacked it from the thugs.
- Jacob: Everyone all right?
- Mary Anne: We seem to have come through unscathed. You have our thanks, Mister Frye.
- Benjamin: It was Gladstone, I bet my life on it. This is perfectly in keeping with his lack of character. Show yourself, Gladstone! Show yourself, you feckless muck-snipe!
- Mary Anne: Well, he's hardly going to be in the van with a cudgel, Dizzy.
Jacob brought the carriage to safety at Downing Street.
- Disraeli: Damn Gladstone! That bloody man! He will pay for this!
Jacob helped Mary Anne out of the carriage.
- Mary Anne: Thank you. What do you intend to do about Gladstone, young man?
- Jacob: I assure you, madam, Gladstone is innocent in this.
- Mary Anne: But he tried to kill my husband.
- Jacob: Well, we'll look into Gladstone. Perhaps you can help me in another inquiry, madam. A gentleman with ties to parliament. Older, wears cavalry uniforms and has a large moustache?
- Mary Anne: You seem like a rough and ready sort of fellow, Mister Frye.
- Jacob: Well... yes, I am, actually.
- Mary Anne: And are you familiar with the poorer districts of our city?
- Jacob: Roughly.
- Mary Anne: Wonderful! As it happens, I've been eager to tour the Devil's Acre. If you were to escort me, I'd be happy to assist you in your inquiry.
- Jacob: That strikes me as a dangerous idea.
- Mary Anne: Then it's settled. Come back here to Downing Street tomorrow night, eight o'clock sharp. Good day, Mister Frye.
- Jacob: But, I-
- Mary Anne: Good day, Mister Frye.
Outcome
After saving Disraeli and his wife, Jacob was forced to agree to escort the latter through the Devil's Acre in order to learn the identity of "B".
