Historical basis?

Was looking at a list of traditional Chinese festivals to see if there was a WP page we could link to for more IRL context. I can't find anything specific but given that it occurs in the first month of the year it looks to be either part of the Chinese New Year festivities or part of the follow up Lantern Festival.
