Biography

Early life

At some point, during a mission Xavier was overseeing, all the Assassins under his command were killed, including one of the most respected Assassins of his time, Joseph.[1]

Joseph's return

However, in September 2015, Joseph resurfaced in the Templar headquarters, claiming that he was feeding the Templars with false informations regarding a Piece of Eden located in Salem at the time of the witch trials. Xavier's teammates felt conflicted over whether or not to trust him; while Xavier was inclined to believe Joseph, Galina Voronina thought it better to take no risks and kill him.[2]

To be sure that despite his claim, Joseph was not giving valid intellgence to their ennemies, the Assassins decided to search for an individual with the necessary genetic memories. Kody, the cell's technician, hacked Abstergo Industries' Helix databases and found Charlotte de la Cruz, an employee at Malta Banking Corporation in San Diego.[2]

In San Diego, Xavier and Galina recruited Charlotte into the Brotherhood after Kody discovered that she was a descendant of an Assassin active during the Salem witch trials, Tom Stoddard. Killing a group of men sent after Charlotte by the Templars, the Assassins took their unconscious new recruit to their hideout located near the Salton Sea, where they put Charlotte into an Animus in order to relive the memories of Stoddard.[2]

Later, witnessing the idealistic Charlotte having trouble to synchronize with her ruthless ancestor, Galina expressed her doubts about Chen's judgement and the new recruit's ability to accomplish the mission that the Assassin assigned to her.[3]
