Wenlocan Outpost

The Wenlocan Outpost was a military outpost nestled within the forests of Shropshire west of the Wenlocan Abbey.

History[edit | edit source]

During the 870s, the outpost was captured by the Britons who used the outpost to house food and supplies for their war efforts against the Kingdom of Mercia.

Circa 874, the Viking Eivor Varinsdottir travelled to the outpost on the direction of the Bishop Deorlaf. After clearing the outpost of its guards, Eivor looted the cargo and freed the captured Anglo-Saxon prisoners, adding strength to the Bishop's fyrd.[1]
