The Weddell Sea is part of the Southern Ocean and is situated in the western section of Antarctica on the Antarctic Peninsula.

History

On 4 September 2012, tensions were mounting over a joint oil drilling operation undertaken by United States and the European Union. Several supranational unions opposed the construction stating that directly violated the Antarctic Treaty System, the situation being made worse by the appearance of two naval destroyers in the area for seemingly unrelated reasons. The issue was reported by the Abstergo News Wire Services, subscribed to by Abstergo Industries Animus Project head, Warren Vidic who received the article in an email the same day.[1]
