Tripoli

Tripoli is the capital city of Libya.
History
In 1511, Tripoli had been conquered by the Spanish Army, led by Pedro Navarro. The Ottoman Assassins came seeking his expertise in weaponry and explosives, and returned to investigate his apparent kidnapping. They also seized the city from Templar control, installing several Assassin Dens.[1]
In 1796, the United States and the Ottoman province of Tripoli signed a treaty, protecting Americans sailing in the Mediterranean Sea from their privateers. The treaty included a clause mentioning that religious differences between the two countries were no reason for them to go to war.[2]
In 1805, the Black Cross Solomon Bolden and his ally Jan van der Graff traveled to Tripoli, where they both secretly sought to retrieve the Koh-i-Noor from Sultan Selim III's palace. At a tavern, the pair learned about a secret underground tunnel leading into the palace from Edmund, a marine deserter, and Ahkbar, a shady local. However, while making their way through the tunnel, Bolden and Van der Graff were confronted by soldiers who killed the former and captured the latter after being informed of their intentions by Ahkbar, who was secretly an Assassin and agent of Selim.[3]
Van der Graff was subsequently thrown into the same prison cell as Tavis Olier, the previous Black Cross who had been captured during his own mission to recover the Koh-i-Noor.[4] Over the following three years, Olier trained Van der Graff to become the new Black Cross and, on 29 July 1808, the pair learned about Ahkbar's plans to assassinate the Sultan and steal the Koh-i-Noor. Olier sacrificed himself to allow Van der Graff to escape, and the latter confronted Ahkbar, who had poisoned Selim and retrieved the Koh-i-Noor. Overcoming the Piece of Eden's illusions, Van der Graff killed Ahkbar, then deceived the Assassins who came for the artifact by handing them an empty box while he left with the Koh-i-Noor.[5]
