Trinity Church

Trinity Church is a historic church located in Lower Manhattan in New York, at the intersection of Wall Street and Broadway.

History

Trinity Church was built with the help of famous privateer William Kidd, who provided equipment from his own ship to ensure its construction was completed. After it had been, Kidd even had a pew reserved for him, though he wound up never using it. However, the church eventually burned down, and reconstruction began in 1788. Following this, it wound up founding both the Trinity School and King's College, which was renamed to Columbia University.

Trinity Church still stands today, and was the largest building in the city in 1846 at the time it was completed; it can be sought out at the corner of what is now Wall Street.
