Toyotomi Hideyori
Toyotomi Hideyori (豊臣 秀頼; 1593 – 1615) was the son[1][2] and designated successor of the samurai Toyotomi Hideyoshi. In 1598, Hideyoshi died and a council of elders was formed to reign in Hideyori's place, since he was much too young to rule at five years old. One of these elders was Tokugawa Ieyasu, who would plot and scheme to take the power for himself. This conflict between Hideyori and Tokugawa would culminate in the Siege of Osaka in 1614, when the forces allied with Tokugawa gathered around Osaka Castle to attempt to force Hideyori and his allies to give up. The siege ended with the castle being set on fire, with Hideyori and his mother Yodo-dono reported to have either died huddled together[3] or committed seppuku, though later rumors suggested that they had survived and fled to Satsuma Domain since neither of their bodies were found in the burned wreckage.[1][4]
