Thug
Thugs or Courageous Citizens were citizens of the three big cities (Damascus, Acre, and Jerusalem) as well as Masyaf.
Description
They were more burly and tough-looking than most peasants, and were most notable for carrying Throwing Knives, which Altaïr was able to pickpocket. If they caught Altaïr while doing so, they would fight him. They usually carried five knives, though visiting Masyaf or a Bureau would also replenish the amount of knives in possession.
Thugs were also known as Courageous Citizens because when they spotted Altaïr attacking an Interrogation target, they would join in the fistfight. They never fled from a fistfight, instead choosing to fight until they collapsed. If Altaïr drew a blade, however, they would run. They could not freerun, so they were quite easy to escape from.

Trivia
- On the Xbox 360 version of Assassin's Creed, you can get an achievement called "The Hands of a Thief" by pickpocketing 200 knives (40 successful pickpockets) from thugs, which will grant you 15 points.
