Tenshō Iga War
The Iga Rebellion (1579–1581) was the failed resistance of Iga Province against Oda Nobunaga's invasions during the Sengoku period.[1] In 1579, eager to achieve fame, Nobunaga's son Oda Nobukatsu directed the first invasion of Iga ,[2] but his army fell into an ambush set by Iga shinobi and severe rebuke from his father. [1] He met with much greater success when he returned in 1581 with his new retainer Yasuke, razing down settlements across the province and all but destroying the Iga.[2] In a twist of fate, one of the surviving ninja, Fujibayashi Naoe, later joined forces with Yasuke to pursue common goals.[3]
