Svala (died 873) was a Norse seeress and the mother of Valka who lived in the mountains near Fornburg in Rygjafylke, Norway during the 9th century. She was the reincarnation of the Isu Freyja.
Biography
Svala was the reincarnation of the Isu Freyja who, along with several other members of the Æsir including Odin, Thor and Tyr, used the Yggdrasil, the intended seventh solution to the Great Catastrophe to reincarnate and escape their fates.[1] By the time she became old, Svala inherited most of the memories of her life as Freyja.[2]
Between 872 and 873, Svala, knowing her death was fast approaching, made use of Freyja's memories to locate the Yggdrasil, wishing to use it to escape death. In time, she managed to locate the chamber in Hordafylke and understood how to successfully utilize the machine. After bidding farewell to Valka, Svala departed and used the machine to create a simulation of Valhalla, relishing in the freedom, youth and vigor that the simulation gave her.[3]
Eventually, Sigurd and Eivor entered themselves, the two also being Isu reincarnations of Tyr and Odin, respectively, everyone present welcomed them as old friends. Svala tried explaining Valhalla to a confused Eivor, but Eivor and Sigurd eventually left the simulation, with Svala wishing to stay behind. Having come to terms with her decision, Eivor wisher her well and accepts Svala's decision to stay inside the Valhalla simulation forever.[3]
Personality and characteristics
According to Valka, her mind was a jumble, as she spoke to the spirits when her final winter had come.[4] It was soon revealed that Svala was fearful of getting old and dying, and became even more desperate to resolve her situation. Using her memories as her time as the Isu Freyja, Svala began secretly using the Yggdrasil device to regain her youth and eternal life inside the Yggdrasil's Valhalla simulation. [citation needed]
