Shay Cormac's aunt immigrated to America with the rest of the Cormac family from Dublin and settled in New York City. When Shay was born on 12 September 1731, his merchant father had little time to care for him as his mother died during childbirth. With no other immediate caregivers, his aunt took on the responsibility of raising him in his father's absence.[1]
