Shay Cormac’s aunt immigrated to America with the rest of the Cormac family from Dublin and settled in New York City.
When Shay was born in 1731, his father, a merchant, had little time to care for him, and his mother died during childbirth. With no other immediate caregivers, his aunt took on the responsibility of raising him in his father’s absence.[1]
