Port of Sakai

The Port of Sakai was a port in western Sakai in Izumi Settsu, Japan.
History
By the 15th century, the port served as a cargo terminal of the Inland Sea as the city was visited by frequent seafarers. Over time, the port provided the city a new, thriving trade route, when compared to an older trade route, which went through the contentious port of Hakata in northern Kyushu.[1]
In 1560, the Portuguese Templar Nuno Caro arrived at the port and met with a local merchant. Discussing their usual business, Caro also asked the merchant for any further businessmen in the area as he elaborated over his fascination of the country and possible business endeavours. Surprised, the merchant agreed to help him and asked Caro to follow him.[2]
In 1582, the Kakushiba ikki members Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke ventured towards the port to aid their newfound ally Rufino in his task to stop a group of hired killers from attacking local influential people. At the port, they caught sight of the atakebune and swam towards it. Onboard, they destroyed all of their intel but overheard Rufino call for help. Rushing to him, they caught sight of one of the killers and his men, managed to kill them, and saved Rufino.[3]
From the killer's personal effects, Naoe, Yasuke, and Rufino recovered a scroll containing orders from the Architect and discovered that contracts were still sent out. With the document was marked with a red Templar cross, which Yasuke was all too familiar with, he and Naoe promised to stop the Templars' activities and save their targets while Rufino returned to the homestead.[3]
Behind the scenes
In the memory "The Kabukimono," while hunting down the kabukimono in Izumi Settsu, the player is given a choice of assassinating the Ghost General either at the port or at the Money Changer District.[4]
