Antarctica is the world's southernmost and least populated continent.

History[edit | edit source]

The Antarctic Treaty System, signed in 1959 by 21 countries, now has 58 signatories. It bans military activity and mining but supports scientific research.[1] In September 2012 however, drilling operations in the continents Weddell Sea were thought to be of in violation of the Treaty. That and the appearance of two nearby naval destroyers, increased tensions.[2]

Earlier that year, in February,[3] Russian scientists of Vostok Station completed the longest ever core sample from Lake Vostok. The sample taken dated back 400,000 years, something which interested the Templar-governed Abstergo Industries as something that could help them learn abut the history of the Isu.[4]
