Pakistan, officially the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, is a sovereign state in South Asia. It is situated immediately west of India from which it was partitioned in 1947 upon independence from the British Empire as a result of a religious rift between the Muslims and the Hindus.

The area upon which Pakistan now sits corresponds roughly to the Indus Valley Civilization, the cradle of the Indian civilization. Its northern mountains, part of the Punjab region fell under the Sikh Empire in the early 19th century, and the Indian Assassin Arbaaz Mir frequented it during his life time.[1]
