Oija was a Lunden blacksmith who aligned himself with Sister Frideswid, a nun and a member of the Order of the Ancients during the 9th century.
Biography
Not much is known about Oija, though he is an Norse blacksmith that came to work for the Order member, Sister Frideswid, also known as The Leech. Helping Oija, a young Norse girl named Regna, daughter of Gyda, came to work for him in terms of errands and buying hacksilver. Unknown to the girl, Oija knew what the designs and tools he made were being used for, as he followed Frideswid's logic.[1]
In 873, Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir came looking for Regna, as she was missing for two days. Eivor's investigation led her to follow a man towards the Bodilsburg Garrison, where Oija worked. Finding the blacksmith's workplace, Eivor went inside and found Oija, waiting for his materials. Being interrogated by Eivor, Oija divulged that his last worker, Regna, became ill and was sent to The Good Sister, Frideswid. However, Oija had willingly gave up the girl to Frideswid as he knew what the nun's activities were. With this information, Eivor left the blacksmith, Oija, and headed to the forum, where she assassinated Frideswid and found the unfortunate Regna dead and mutilated. After the ordeal, Eivor reported back to Erke.[1]
