Nicolaus Copernicus (Italian: Niccolò Copernico, Polish: Mikołaj Kopernik), was a Polish Renaissance astronomer, mathematician and priest. He was the first person to present a correct model of Heliocentrism. He appears in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood in a sequence of missions exclusive to the PlayStation 3.[1]

During Ezio Auditore da Firenze's time in Rome, Copernicus visited the Vatican and studied a lunar eclipse that happened in the 1500s. He went from square to square in Rome, teaching the public and talking to them about mathematics and science. The Vatican heard of Copernicus' scientific preaching and decided that all scientists had to be stopped because they taught that science was more important than the church. It was up to Ezio to save Copernicus and the other scholars. After delivering letters to Copernicus' fellow scholars and transporting him to safety, Ezio saved Copernicus from guards sent to kill him and therefore Copernicus was able to continue his research without worry.[2]

Trivia

  • If you analyse the history of rome and what is in Assasin's Creed : Brotherhood, Nicolaus could have been the first head of illumination. As at a start he was a Templar however the templars disagreed with his views on bringing science to the people of rome whilst the Borgia are trying to unite italia under the Catholic rule with the help of the templar using the followers of Romulus to scare people into the church but with science itroduced to the people it is making the borgia lose control of its catholic people so then they decide to attempt to kill him. Coincidently the Vaticano also decided to do this in real life hunt down scholars, mathmaticians, scientists alike and kill them in real life which forced them into hiding, Going back to the game, nicolaus is forced into hiding also as the guards would have been chasing him.
