Nessa
Nessa was a Kanien'kehá:ka who stayed at Ravensthorpe in England during the 9th century.
History
When Gorm Kjotvesson traveled to Vinland, secretly in search of the Grand Temple, the Viking Randvi of the Raven Clan contracted Nessa to take the clan's shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir across the ocean to hunt down Gorm. Nessa met Eivor at Ravensthorpe's docks and, following some brief introductions, informed her that the journey to Vinland would take three weeks by ship and could prove fatal. The pair nonetheless boarded Nessa's ship and, after a long voyage, arrived in VInland unscathed. Eivor then left to commence her hunt for Gorm while Nessa stayed with the ship.[1]
Following Eivor's assassination of Gorm, Nessa sailed her back to Ravensthorpe. She then decided to stay in the settlement, acting as a ferrywoman to sail Eivor to and from Vinland whenever the shieldmaiden wished.[2]
By 889, Nessa appeared to no longer reside in Ravensthorpe, as when Eivor decided to permanently settle down in Vinland, she arranged for a crew to sail her there from Lunden.[3]
