Mawei Station

Mawei Station (馬嵬驛) was a staging station in Xianyang, north of the imperial capital of Chang'an,

History

In July 756, the Tang Emperor Xuanzong fled from Chang'an with the royal entourage after the capital was in danger of being overrun by the Yeluohe, the rebel army of the Yan Longwu Emperor. En route to Shu, the entourage stopped in Mawei station where the Army of Dragon Warriors was joined by the surving Army of Heavenly Warriors, who had escaped from the Fall of Tong Pass. There, they launched a mutiny against the Golden Turtles leader and Right Chancellor Yang Guozhong, unwittingly aided by the Hidden One Li E, He Hong'er. Chen Wu and the Battle of Changshan survivors. The resulting event led to the extermination of Yang family and the Golden Turtles.[1]
