It has been proposed that this page be merged with Master Assassin, under the article: Master Assassin. Discussion to this effect can be held on the former article's talk page.

Master, or Magister, was a title used by the Hidden Ones, ranking between Acolyte and Mentor. Its use was attested in documents from 30 BCE, when it was recorded in the Magas Codex,[1] until the late 9th century, when it was noted in correspondence between acolyte Hytham and his mentor, Rayhan.[2]

In the Roman province of Britannia, the Roman Hidden Ones used the Latin title of Magister, but it held the same meaning.[3] In China during the Tang dynasty and in the Abbasid Caliphate, the titles of Master and Master Assassin were used interchangeably;[4][5] following the Hidden Ones' reformation as the Assassin Brotherhood in the 11th century, the title of Master Assassin became the only one used.
