Jade refers to a variety of largely green-hued minerals, often used as sculpting material.

History

Both the Mayas and the Aztecs used jade as a decorative stone, whence they carved into various shapes, or used as part of mosaics.[1]

In China, jade was considered to be a symbol of good fortune, same as pigs.[1]

18th century

During the Golden Age of Piracy in the West Indies, jade was desired for its value by lots of people, including pirates, and soldiers.[2] In search of carved jade, they were not above raiding Mayan temples, or offering rewards for it.[3]

19th century

In the Victorian era, jade was used occasionally in the crafting of weapons, namely in the blades of kukris and cane-swords .[4]
