During the Golden Age of Piracy in the West Indies, jade was desired for its value by lots of people, including pirates, and soldiers.[2] In search of carved jade, they were not above raiding Mayan temples, or offering rewards for it.[3]

In the Victorian era, jade was used occasionally in the crafting of weapons, namely in the blades of kukris and cane-swords .[4]
