Jade refers to a variety of largely green-hued minerals, often used as sculpting material.

History

18th century

During the Golden Age of Piracy in the West Indies, jade was desired for its value by lots of people, including pirates, and soldiers.[1] In search of carved jade, they were not above raiding Mayan temples, or offering rewards for it.[2]

19th century

In the Victorian era, jade was used occasionally in the crafting of weapons, namely in the blades of kukris and cane-swords .[3]
