Hystaspes
Hystaspes was the second son of the Persian king Xerxes I. When his father was assassinated by Darius, Hystaspes' younger brother Artaxerxes I ascended the throne.
Hystaspes grew jealous of his brother and plotted to kill him, but Darius, his father's killer, tried to kill him with poison. When the attempt failed, his brother fled to Megara, Greece. In his absence, Hystaspes seized the opportunity to claim the throne and had Darius and his family go on the run hunted by his allies, The Order of Ancients. Hystaspes would continue to send executioners and assassins to make attempts on his Brothers life.[1]
Trivia
- Historically, Hystaspes never ascended the throne and is actually thought to have been assassinated on orders from Artaxerxes.
