Hrolf, also known as Hrolf the Watcher, was a Saxon who lived during the 9th century. He was the person in charge of lighting the braziers on Hadrian's Wall in nothern Northumbria.

At one point during the 870s Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir encountered his corpse sitting on a throne atop a wall at the eastern part of Hadrian's Wall after dying in the cold weather. She found a note explaining he kept lighting the braziers to fend off the darkness which would otherwise creep into the area.[1]
