Handcannon guards were heavily-armed guards during the Ming dynasty. They wielded a large and lethal hand cannon.
History
In 1524, a handcannon guard joined other soldiers, when they were sent by Zhu Houcong, Emperor of China, after his former concubine and Chinese Assassin Shao Jun. Tracking Shao Jun to the former Assassin Mentor Ezio Auditore da Firenze's villa in Tuscany, they all attacked in the night. While Shao and Ezio fought off most of the Imperial soldiers, the hand-cannon guard slowly loaded his hand cannon and fired at an unsuspecting Shao. However, Ezio saved her and they took their fight outside the villa. The hand cannon followed and tried to kill Shao, but he was ultimately killed by both her and Ezio.[1]
In 1529, in Nan'an, Shao Jun came across more of these guards[2] while trying to locate and assassinate Eight Tiger Wei Bin. Wei Bin also had a security team of three handcannon guards protecting him, but they all fell to Shao Jun.[3] Along with the last two Eight Tigers Qiu Ju and Zhang Yong, handcannon guards were a part of their protective details but failed in protecting their masters.[4][5][6][7]
