Guy Fawkes (1570 – 1606), also known as Guido Fawkes while fighting for the Spanish, was a member of a group of provincial English Catholics who planned the failed Gunpowder Plot of 1605.

Biography

Role in the Gunpowder Plot

On 5 November 1605, Guy Fawkes attempted to blow up the Palace of Westminster, but was arrested by Sir Thomas Knyvet.[1] After his capture, Guy was trialed and executed in the Palace.[2]

Legacy

In 2010, Shaun Hastings worked as a junior professor and taught a course that included the 1605 Gunpowder Plot. As a result, on December 9, Shaun took the pseudonym "Guy Fawkes" when he released a letter detailing Abstergo Industries' inner workings to WikiLeaks. When Abstergo's CEO Alan Rikkin ordered the letter to be pulled, he incorrectly stated that Guy Fawkes was involved in the French Revolution. When Caroline Grey corrected him, he snapped at her, claiming "We are making history here, the past is largely irrelevant."[3]
