The grappling hook was a tool used by the members of the Assassin Order at multiple points in history. The earliest known use was that of Levantine Assassin Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad in his search for the Chalice.[1]

In 1190, Rafik gave Altaïr the grappling hook, allowing the Assassin to traverse gaps and chasms, as well as pull enemy guards towards him, allowing him to deal the final blow.[1]

In 1841, Indian Assassin Arbaaz Mir used the grappling hook during his quest to recover the Koh-i-Noor from the Templar William Sleeman.[2]
