The Gold Coast is a former British colony on West Africa's Gulf of Guinea, in 1957 it gained its independence as Ghana.

History

The Second Anglo–Ashanti War, took place in the region from 1863 to 1864.[1] Louis Prescott served as a colonel for the 11th Regiment of Foot in a mission that ended in ambush along the Pra River. Jonas Hassett and Samuel Frye served under him in the regiment.[2]

During the 19th century, the region was advertised as holiday destination for people from the United Kingdom wishing to visit the colonies of the British Empire. The Gold Coast were advertised as being "an African treasure".[3]
