Giovanni Borgia on Cortes' ship.

Giovanni Borgia was the son of Perotto Calderon and Lucrezia Borgia and a member of the Assassin Order.[1]

Biography

Early life

Giovanni was secretly born in Rome to Lucrezia Borgia, the illegitimate daughter of Pope Alexander VI and a courier by the name of Perotto Calderon, who was a secret Assassin. At childbirth however, the child was malformed and would die within a few days. Additionally, Perotto was taken prisoner, but he managed to escape and took his son to Agnadello, where the Assassins were guarding "the Shroud", which Perotto thought would be able to heal his son. When he arrived there, having slain both Assassins and Borgia soldiers along the way, Perotto asked the Shroud to heal his son, which it supposedly did, but the child would forever be mentally unstable.[1]

Soon after this, Perotto was slain by his Brothers for having broken all three tenents of their creed. Giovanni wound up in the hands of his uncle, Cesare Borgia, who posed as his father. He was trained to be cruel by both his father and the latter's friend Micheletto, while his grandfather allowed him to 'play' with the Apple of Eden. Once, when he was five, Giovanni stole the Apple and later used it to create an illusion of Cesare to scare Micheletto but when Rodrigo discovered this he was punished. Giovanni had the ability to turn his thoughts into reality with the usage of the Apple, which his grandfather made notes of. He was sometimes allowed to spend time with his mother Lucrezia, who was forced into posing as his aunt. However, spending time with her son and seeing him grow up in a wrong way made Lucrezia depressed. Giovanni dreamed the memories of his father Perotto, an effect most likely caused by the Shroud.[1]

Eventually, Giovanni planned to run away from home. When he received a letter from an unknown individual saying to meet him by a fountain, he was even more encouraged to do so. He made sure no one saw him sneak away and went to the fountain, where he used his "other eyes" to recognize the individual from the crowd. Giovanni followed him as he ran across the rooftops until he finally stopped in an alleyway, where he was halted by two dirty men trying to rob him. The individual plunged his hidden blades into both men and said Giovanni to go with him. The individual turned out to be Francesco Vecellio, the former understudy of his biological father Perotto. He was taken in and trained into the Assassin Order.[1]

Recovering the Crystal Skull

In 1519, Giovanni was secured a position aboard Hernán Cortés ship which was to sail towards the New World. Giovanni was tasked with recovering a Piece of Eden from the city of Tenochtitlan. After a long time searching, he discovered that the Piece of Eden was a Crystal Skull in possession of an Aztec priest.[1]

Trivia

  • Giovanni has come in contact with at least three Pieces of Eden; the Shroud, the Sixth Apple and the Crystal Skull. This is known as the most PoE any one assassin has come in contact with at this point.
  • Giovanni has a voice in his head that he names 'Consus'. This could be the result of the Shroud being used on him when he was a child. 'Consus' may be refering to 'Conscious'.
