- "I am not a rich man, Master Comac… Money is a means to an end, not an end in and of itself."
- ―George Monro, 1756.
George Monro (1700 – August 1757) was a Colonel in the British Army during the Seven Years' War, and a member of the Colonial Rite of the Templar Order.
He was one of the men who rescued Shay Cormac after he had left the Assassin Brotherhood and been taken to the home of Barry and Cassidy Finnegan. After Shay managed to oust an Assassin-allied gang from their headquarters in New York City, Monro recognized Shay's promise in the Order and was convinced he would excel above all others, so much so that he even told the Grand Master Haytham Kenway such.
In 1757, Monro was assigned to work in Fort William Henry. A French-native alliance threatened the security of the fort. During the Siege of Fort William Henry, Monro was forced to surrender due to lack of reinforcements. However the natives did not honor the surrender and ambushed Monro and the remaining British troops. With the timely arrival of Shay, Monro and his men fought off the natives and gang members and headed for the safety of the Morrigan.
As the ship cast off, the Assassin Kesegowaase appeared on shore, enraged that Shay had survived and allied himself with the Templars. Before the Assassin could leap onto the Morrigan's deck, the crew threw a barrel of gunpowder onto the dock, where it exploded and scarred Kesegowaase's face
Death
- "Shay!"
- ―George Monro's final words, 1757.
In August 1757, Albany was under attack by the Assassins, led again by Kasegowaase. On the behest of Shay, Monro headed for safety with the Voynich manuscript in his posessionn. However, Monro was fatally attacked by Liam O'Brien, who took the manuscript and left Monro for dead in a burning house.
Shay managed to carry Monro out of the burning house, but could not save the dying colonel from his wounds. Before succumbing, Monro handed Shay his Templar ring. Shay would later on wear the Templar ring throughout his life upon his induction into the Templar Order.
