Alessandra d'Avanzago (born 1487) was a member of the Italian Brotherhood of Assassins in Venice during the Renaissance.

Biography

Early life

Alessandra was born in 1487 to a patrician family. Her mother, Cristina, was a minor member of the Assassin Brotherhood, while her father, Sebastiano, was a wealthy land owner. In 1499, when Alessandra just turned 12, her mother had dragged her father in a conspiracy against Agostino Barbarigo, the Doge of Venice who was formerly an ally of the Assassins but had turned traitor. Her father was thus exiled while her mother was captured by the Templars and Barabarigo's soldiers.[1]

Agostino, pressured by the Templars, decided to make an example of Cristina via her daughter and had Alessandra's tongue cut, marking her family in infamy. Alessandra was then separated from her mother, who was never to be seen or heard of again.[1]

Joining the Brotherhood

A year later, the Doge ashamed of his actions, anonymously had Alessandra initiated into the Assassin Brotherhood, becoming one of the youngest member of the Order.[1] Under the Assassins, Alessandra became a fiercely independent but complete team player. Being mute because of her tongue being cut, she developed a battle language and taught it to her fellow Assassins, including Bastiano da Mezzo and Beatrice whom she had became close friends with.[2]

In 1507, Alessandra accompanied Mentor Ezio Auditore da Firenze to Naverre, during his hunt for Cesare Borgia.[2]

Personality and characteristics

Due to her past, Alessandra refused to let anyone treat her like a second-class human, neither because of her gender nor her forced muteness, and thus spent a lot of her time training and upkeeping her weapons and armors. Under pressure, she goes into survival mode, changing her in a highly focused, efficient and fearless Assassin.[2]
