Cantarella

Cantarella was a poison that was most probably a variation af arsenic often used by Pope Alexander IV in politcal assassinations. The Borgia family and the Knights Templar have often used it to rid themselves of unwanted persons

Victims

  • Giovanni Mocenigo was poisoned by Carlo Grimaldi using cantarella.
  • Pietro Rossi was poisoned by Micheletto Corella during the events of the passion play with cantarella concealed in his wine. Pietro was eventually saved by Ezio Auditore.
  • Rodrigo Borgia attempted to poison his own son Cesare Borgia with cantarella concealed within an apple. Cesare did not consume enough to kill him but he did consume enough to leave him ill for months after.
  • After Rodrigo Borgia attempted to poison his son, Cesare rammed the cantarella filled apple down Rodrigo's throat, causing him to die.
