Callum "Cal" Lynch (born 1979)[1] is a modern day descendant of the 15th century Spanish Assassin Aguilar de Nerha.[3] He is also the son of Joseph and Mary Lynch.

In 2016, he was apparently executed, but survived with the help of Abstergo Industries, who captured Callum to have him relive the memories of Aguilar in an Animus, in an attempt to find an Apple of Eden. Through reliving Aguilar's memories, the Apple was discovered to be buried with Christopher Columbus and was soon retrieved by Alan Rikkin and other Templars.

Soon after the Apple was found, Callum and captured Assassins including Moussa and Lin escaped from Abstergo Industries. Later, while Alan was giving a speech, Callum killed him and retrieved the Apple of Eden, afterwards rejoining Moussa and Lin and accepting his place as an Assassin.

Biography

As a child, Lynch was forced to watch his mother's murder. He has been on the run ever since, living on the fringes of society. This shrouded his heritage from him.[4]

He grew up to be a criminal himself and was scheduled to be executed after he killed a pimp. However, the Templars learned of his Assassin ancestry and faked his death so that they could access de Nerha's memories during the Spanish Inquisition and his interaction with an Apple of Eden.[5]

Callum awoke the following day at an Abstergo facility in Madrid for use in Animus experiments.[6] Prolonged exposure caused the Bleeding Effect to manifest in Lynch, making him see images of Aguilar in the present day.[7]

Trivia

  • "Callum" is a masculine Gaelic name meaning "dove" in Scottish and Irish Gaelic, continuing the trend of Assassin's Creed protagonists having avian-themed names.
  • In the scene with the bulletin board showing Callum's family tree, the photograph of a young Callum has his name written as "Cal", with the "A" written as the Assassin insignia.
