Burlington House
The Burlington House, also known as the Royal Society Building is a mansion in London, England.
History
Originally designed and paid for by poet Sir John Denham in 1665, the mansion in Piccadilly Circus would be sold only two years later mostly due to the passing of Denham's wife and his own failing health. The building would take on the name of the new owner, Richard Boyle, 1st Earl of Burlington, becoming known as the Burlington House.[1]
The property changed hands over the ensuing years until the British government acquired it in 1854, when it became the headquarters for a number of scientific advisory boards, most notably the Royal Society of London.[1]
