The brig was a class of warship operated by, among others, the British, Spanish and Portuguese navies.
During the Golden Age of Piracy, the brig represented the perfect compromise between the more powerful frigate and Man O' War, and the faster schooner and gunboat. Each ship bore two masts, and was capable of fielding up to twenty-four guns over two decks; on top of this, they were fitted with a naval ram.
One notable brig in operation during this time was the Jackdaw, owned by the pirate named Edward Kenway. The Jackdaw was unique among its class for being significantly more well-armed and armored than other brigs, fielding armaments on a par with the Man O' War. the jackdaw has more upgrades than the aquila. the jackdaw can also change in apperence depending on characters choice aswell as if the player pre odered the game and has aquired new sails, heads, and wheels. Black beard commented on the jackdaw being a poxi bird refering the the name jackdaw being a bird in the west indies. the jackdaw changes in color depending on the upgrades of the hull. the jackdaw can also use the Aquila's figurehead witch is Assassin's creed III. also you can salvage cargo and sell them to a harbor that the Aquila could never do. Adewale is the Jackdaws quartermaster giving helpful advice to edward such as cargo adrift, man at sea, and if an enemy is firing. Edward chooses to sail the jackdaw himself insted of hiring a Helmsman. the Jackdaw features new weponry for the player to destroy the enemy all requiring the player to have loads of money and cargo.
