HMS Pembroke

HMS Pembroke was a 60-gun Royal Navy Man O' War. Designed by the shipwright Sir Joseph Allin and built at Plymouth Dockyard in 1752, it launched in 1757 and almost immediately saw combat, famously participating in the 1758 Siege of Louisbourg and scouting the St. Lawrence River before the 1759 Battle of the Plains of Abraham. It served almost 20 years at sea before it was converted into a hulk in 1776 and broken up in 1793.

History

During the Seven Years' War, the cartographer and explorer James Cook captained the vessel and led it against the French Navy at the Siege of Louisbourg, though the Colonial Templar Shay Cormac was actually stationed at the helm.

Later, Cook sailed Pembroke to Percé, Canada and met Shay on his sloop-of-war Morrigan to discuss leads on the Colonial Assassin Louis-Joseph Gaultier's location. While Cook was on the Morrigan, a British officer temporarily took Pembroke's helm in his absence. Pembroke accompanied Morrigan to the Arctic Ocean in Shay's pursuit of Louis-Joseph and sank his ship Gerfaut once Shay killed him.

Behind the scenes

The HMS Pembroke is a historical ship that appears in the 2014 video game Assassin's Creed: Rogue. Navy records show that it was actually captained by John Simcoe during the Siege of Louisbourg, and then by John Wheelock for the rest of Pembroke's service following Simcoe's death in 1759, while Cook instead served under them as sailing master.

Players can acquire Pembroke's sails to use on the Morrigan if they purchased the downloadable Commander Pack or Ultimate Hunter Pack.

Pembroke is the first level 60 Man O' War to that players see in Rogue and is the only level 60 British Man O' War in the game. Its model is identical to La Dama Negra and Storm Fortress.
