The Seto Inland Sea

The Seto Inland Sea (瀬戸内海), also known as the Inland Sea, is a body of water that separates Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu, three of the major islands of Japan. Although technically not a real inland sea, the Seto Inland Sea has the Naruto Strait connecting it to the Kii Channel, which connects it to the Pacific Ocean.[1] In the northeastern part, the Kitan Strait[2] and Akashi Strait connect Osaka's bay to the Kii Channel.[3]

In 1582, the Inland Sea was sailed across by the Kakushiba ikki members Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke.[4] Three years later, they traveled across the sea towards Awaji to investigate claims of Naoe's mother, Tsuyu, being trapped there.[5]
