Birds are a group of warm-blooded vertebrates constituting the class Aves. Birds are characterised by having feathers, beaks and laying eggs, among other characteristics. Their closest living relatives are crocodilians like alligators and crocodiles. Birds come in many differing sizes and colors and can be found all around the world, totalling some 10,000 different species.^[1]

History

In Ming era China, guards used caged birds to alert them to any nearby intruders. The birds would sing loudly when people moved quickly or suddenly, as well as when affected by noise darts, firecrackers or throwing knives.^[2] When escaping from the Maijishan Grottoes after having killed Gao Feng, the Assassin Shao Jun witnessed a caged bird foiling the escape attempt of a prisoner, who was shot dead by the guards.^[3]
