Adrian of Canterbury (died 710) was a North African scholar who served as an abbot in Anglo-Saxon England during the 7th and 8th century. He was later revered as a saint in Kent.

Born in Cyrenaica, then under the Rashidun Caliphate, Adrian developed an ale recipe that involved the usage of silphium, a plan native to Cyrenaica that was widely sort after for its use as a seasoning and contraceptive.[1] During his travels to England,[2] Adrian brought along the recipe and a supply of the silphium, which eventually became a mainstay and the signature of the county of Kent.[1]
