Berserkr were a class of Viking warriors.

Wielding two axes, the berserkers bore almost no armour, and fought with fervour.^[1]

Behind the scenes

Berserkr is Old Norse compound word usually translated as 'bear-shirt'. The reference to wearing a bear's skin signified the ability and ferocity of the warrior.^[2]

The image used on the sails of the longship is based on the depiction of a berserker on one of the Torslunda plates.
