Overview of the ruined monument

The Battle of the Giants and Gods was a location north of the battleground in Forest of Soron region of Arkadia, Greece.

Crafted into the cliff face, statues stood watching over a ruined shrine, the perpetual fire blazing from the depths, and the battleground. They served as a reminder of a battle between Giants and the Olympians, the former seeking to avenge the Titans who'd been ousted by the new gods.[1]

During the Peloponnesian War, the Spartan misthios Kassandra visited the site.[2]

Trivia

  • The name of the place references Gigantomachy, the battle between the Giants and the Greek gods in Greek mythology.
  • The mural of the Battle in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey is based on a painting on an amphora from Late Classical period. However, it has been changed for the game, omitting characters like Eros and Dionysos, and changing the legs of the Giants to snakes.
