This argument has been raised many times before. The fact is, there's simply no evidence for it. But then again, it could be one of Ubisoft's twists. A more interesting and plausible argument was one raised concerning how Al Maulin stabbed Altair in the stomach to show his 'Re-birth' after breaking the Creed. What if this is why Desmond was forced to stab Lucy. To allow her to be 'Re-born', maybe as Eve.
