I disagree. I don't want to see three games set in the same place/period instead of exploring a new setting every year. I definitely don't want to wait three years before we do explore something new either. There's enough other game franchises that don't reuse the same character(s) (like Grand Theft Auto) that make characters grow on you just fine. This is a matter of storytelling and writing.

I do agree that we could do with more closure for protagonists, especially when the chances of them disappearing years down the line is pretty slim and by then, not many people care anymore.
