I disagree. I don't want to see three games set in the same place/period instead of exploring a new setting every year. I definitely don't want to wait three years before we do explore something new either. There's enough other game franchises that don't reuse the same character(s) (like Grand Theft Auto) that make characters grow on you just fine. This is a matter of storytelling and writing.
I do agree that we could do with more closure for protagonists, especially when the chances of them disappearing years down the line is pretty slim and by then, not many people care anymore.
I'd like to take the opportunity to talk about what does keep me interested in the series though. It's mostly the way everything remains connected to each other, and all the underlying mysteries that linger and are expanded upon yearly.
To name some examples: the appearance of the Voynich manuscript map in Brahman, the subtle references to Atlantis, the Eve mystery, seeing Washington and Napoleon's connection to the Apples of Eden after it being teased in AC2, and plenty of other things.
Unity did some things well for me too in relation to the overall narrative. The Templars' change in direction to stop relying on the divine institutions of society, and install a new system (capitalism) to rule over the populace. Unity showed the starting point of that with Germain's new direction for the Templars.
Syndicate will show the early period of the Templars' capitalist rule. Will Karl Marx make an appearance in the game? And how will the game handle Darwin's evolution theory when it's clearly untrue in the AC universe (especially considering the Templars wanting to kill Darwin). These are things I'm really curious to see in the game.
