Nicolaus Copernicus
Nicolaus Copernicus (Italian: Niccolò Copernico, Polish: Mikołaj Kopernik), was a Polish Renaissance astronomer, mathematician and priest. He was the first person to present a correct model of Heliocentrism. He appears in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood in a sequence of missions exclusive to the PlayStation 3.[1]
During Ezio Auditore da Firenze's time in Rome, Copernicus visited the Vatican and studied a lunar eclipse that happened in the 1500s. He went from square to square in Rome, teaching the public and talking to them about mathematics and science. The Vatican heard of Copernicus' scientific preaching and decided that all scientists had to be stopped because they taught that science was more important than the church. It was up to Ezio to save Copernicus and the other scholars.
After Ezio rescued Copernicus from an ambush and delivered letters warning Copernicus' fellow scholars of the danger of being attacked, Copernicus informed Ezio of the one most likely behind the attacks, the Master of the Sacred Palace. The Master had never liked Copernicus' ideas, and was likely using his leaving the Templar Order as an excuse to have him killed. Thus, Ezio tracked the friar down and assassinated him, though the Master told him that he too had sent an assassin to kill Copernicus. Ezio rushed back to save Copernicus from the final ones sent to end him, and afterwards, Copernicus was able to continue his research without worry.[2]
