Assassin's Creed: Revelations is an upcoming video game in the Assassin's Creed franchise to be developed and published by Ubisoft. The game will feature three playable characters, a series first, as players play as Altair, Ezio and Desmond during the course of the game. The game is set to be released for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows in November 2011.[1]

Synopsis

The game will feature all three of the series' major characters so far, Altaïr ibn La-Ahad, Ezio Auditore da Firenze and Desmond Miles. The game will be the first major installment in the franchise in which Altair is a playable main character, since the first game. The game is being described as the last chapter in Ezio's story, following Assassin's Creed II and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood both of which were closely linked in terms of story. It will take Ezio to the city of Constantinople (now known as Istanbul), at the peak of the Ottoman Empire. The game will also continue Desmond's story in the modern day following the events of Brotherhood.[1]

Gameplay

Along with the familiar open-world gameplay, Revelations will bring back the multiplayer experience first introduced in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood with "more modes, more maps and more characters" according to the official announcement. In addition, players will be able to "manipulate the construct of Desmond's memories and the Animus to decipher the mysteries of his past and gain insight into the future." [2]

Development

The game was officially unveiled on May 5, 2011 by Game Informer,[1] this announcement was earlier leaked on the Facebook page for Assassin's Creed.[3]On April 29, 2011 the game was leaked on the official Assassin's Creed Facebook page, with a link which led to a flash file.[3] The teaser clip included the words, "Altaïr Ibn La-Ahad, Son of no one" in Arabic which hints that Altaïr, the main protagonist of the first game, may once again be the main protagonist of the game.[3] A third teaser clip for the game showed the city of Istanbul, which hints at it being the setting for the game.[4]

In November 2010, Ubisoft's CEO Yves Guillemot teased "something Assassin's related" in 2011, despite earlier statement by Ubisoft Montreal's Jean-Francois Boivin that no Assassin's Creed game will be released in 2011.[5] Geoffroy Sardin of Ubisoft has later confirmed that it will be a "big" Assassin's Creed game.[6] Ubisoft is set to release a new Assassin's Creed in its fiscal year 2012 (April 1, 2011-March 31, 2012).[7] Guillemot also explained that ultimate goal for Ubisoft is to release new games in the franchise annually along with other Ubisoft's most popular franchises.[5] In February 2011, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed that the next Assassin's Creed game will be released during its next fiscal year, which starts on April 1, 2011, and ends on March 31, 2012. Ubisoft gave no further details about the title, promising more information when it reports its full-year earnings report in May.[8][9]Corey May stated there will be something announced in May 2011.
